Router Network Cards

PCI 600 WAN Card

Data rate: 8 Mbps per port

Port density: 4 and 8 port variants

Interface support: E1, T1, V.35, RS232, RS422/X.21

The PCI 600 series network adapters provide an ideal low-cost solution for applications that require high-density synchronous serial, T1, and E1 connectivity for WAN and Internet applications, as well as channelized applications that require DS0 multiplexing. The PCI 600 series includes PCI 2.1 compliant WAN cards with four or eight full duplex HDLC interfaces operating at speeds up to 8 Mbps per port. 600 series adapters can be used in routers and other products running Linux or Windows.

The modular hardware design of the PCI 600 series provides four or eight synchronous serial interfaces with or without CSU/DSUs. The PCI 604-SE and 608-SE provide four or eight software configurable V.35 or RS232/RS422 interfaces. The RS422 electrical interface supports the EIA530, X.21 and RS449 physical interface standards using the appropriate cables. The PCI 604-T1 and 608-T1 provide four or eight T1 ports, and the PCI 604-E1 and 608-E1 provide four or eight E1 ports. The T1 and E1 cards support full or fractional CSU/DSU speeds independently for each port.

The 600 series features the PMC-Sierra Freedm32 controller which supports HDLC processing for up to eight channelized T1 or E1 interfaces. The PMC-Sierra channelized T1/E1 controller presents a full duplex clock and data interface to the front-end modules. It also processes HDLC frames, manages frame buffering for the local FIFOs, and transfers frames directly to system host RAM via the PCI bus.

The Freedm32 manages link list descriptors and data buffers directly in host RAM. It also manages a pool of 127 separate HDLC controllers that can each be configured to service one DS0, groups of DS0s (NxDS0s), or individual clear channel T1/E1 streams. These capabilities make 600 series adapters an ideal solution for clear channel connections, as well as channelised connections that require DS0 multiplexing for virtual interface groups.
