The Envoy™ is designed for low-cost, small form-factor CPE installations, or outdoor applications that require an operating temperature range from –5° C to 55° C. The Envoy chassis uses a flexible design with two on-board Ethernet ports, two Mini PCI slots, and one USB 1.0 expansion bus that can be used to install additional network interfaces. The Envoy's CPU is capable of routing one T1 or E1 at wire speed, even in rich processing environments using firewalls, access lists, and quality of service.

The Envoy includes a compact set-top case with no fans, high-speed memory, two 10/100 Ethernet ports, and flash storage with no moving parts. The Envoy includes two Mini PCI slots and one USB bus, and supports one external 8-pin or 4-pin RJ-compatible connector, and one synchronous serial connector. Expansion options include network cards for 10/100 Ethernet, 802.11x wireless, T1/E1, synchronous serial (RS232, RS422, X.21 and V.35), ADSL, Basic Rate ISDN (BRI), and 56K dial-up modem connections. The Envoy also supports a high-speed encryption co-processor card for secure VPN applications.

The Envoy leverages the ImageStream Linux™ router distribution, which provides support for NAT firewall security, IPsec and SSL virtual private networks (VPNs), quality of service (QoS), VLAN tagging, VRRP for LAN failover, dynamic routing, packet filtering, bridging, peer-to-peer traffic control, and more. ImageStream Linux also includes the Inetics platform, which provides a tightly integrated Linux kernel, management software, and the Inetics Driver Component Architecture (IDCA). IDCA supports WAN protocols including PPP, Cisco HDLC, frame relay, ATM, and SoftCell™ ATM.

The Envoy's advanced capabilities make it a great low-cost solution for a wide range of business-class TCP/IP routing applications. The Envoy is ideal for small-scale routing applications including branch offices and outdoor POPs. It offers wire-speed performance and unwavering reliability in a small package. The Envoy can replace Cisco 1700 and 1800 routers, and it makes a great router for VPN and QoS applications that require wire-speed performance in a small, low-cost integrated package.
