The R1™ is a modular Industrial Series router supplied by Case Communications. The R1 provides standard features including IP firewall, interface bonder, bridging, QoS, VPN, RIP and OSPF. Its extensive feature set make the R1 an ideal solution for a wide range of TCP/IP routing applications.

The R1 provides two expansion slots in a compact steel chassis that includes a high-performance processor, error-correcting memory, 10/100 ethernet port, and flash storage with no moving parts. The R1 provides best-in-class flexibility for varied installation environments including support for set-top, wallmount, and rackmount installation. It is also available in a ruggedized version that can operate under extended temperature conditions from –5° to 70° C.

The expansion slots include two full-height slots.

The full-height slot accepts all Industrial Series network cards including PCI 520 series cards with one, two or four T1, E1, or synchronous serial ports.

Using these add-on network cards, the R1 can route multiple IP networks using fractional and full T1 or E1, 56/64K DDS, basic rate ISDN (BRI), ADSL, 802.11a/b/g wireless, ethernet, and 56K dial-up modem connections. In addition, the CPU upgrade for the R1 provides the processing power required to route DS3/E3 circuits at wire speed.

The R1 provides support for NAT firewall security, IPsec and SSL VPNs, quality of service (QoS), VLAN tagging, VRRP for LAN failover, dynamic routing, packet filtering, bridging, peer-to-peer traffic control, and more. The Linux also includes the ImageStream Inetics platform, which provides a tightly integrated Linux kernel, management software, and the Inetics Driver Component Architecture (IDCA). IDCA supports WAN protocols including PPP, Cisco HDLC, frame relay, ATM, and SoftCell™ ATM. Inetics also makes it easy to troubleshoot LAN and WAN connections by providing real-time port status and performance monitoring.

The R1 offers wire-speed performance and unwavering reliability in a small package. The R1 can replace Cisco 1600, 1700, 2600 and 3620 routers, and it makes an ideal solution for virtual private network (VPN) and quality of service (QoS) applications where wire-speed performance is required.
