The ImageStream Rebel Router™ is Case Communication's entry-level router for DS3/E3 and BGP applications. The Rebel is widely used by Internet Service Providers (ISPs) as a premise router to terminate medium-density T1/E1 or single port DS3/E3 installations. The Rebel can route one DS3 or E3 at line speed, and it can route up to 16 T1 or E1 circuits at wire speed.

The Rebel is a 1U 19-inch steel rackmount chassis with a high-performance embedded processor, high-speed memory, six 10/100 ethernet ports, reliable flash storage, and two PCI expansion slots. Each PCI slot accepts Industrial Series network cards including 1, 2, 4 and 8-port T1/E1, single port DS3/E3 and HSSI, ethernet with up to six ports, 802.11a/b/g wireless, ADSL, basic rate ISDN (BRI), and dial-up modem. Using these add-on cards, the Rebel can interconnect different IP networks with a wide range of communications interfaces.

The Rebel takes advantage of a Linux™ router distribution, which provides support for NAT firewall security, IPsec and SSL virtual private networks (VPNs), quality of service (QoS), VLAN tagging, VRRP for LAN failover, dynamic routing, packet filtering, bridging, peer-to-peer traffic control, DSL aggregation, link bonding, and more.

The Linux distribution includes the ImageStream Inetics platform, which provides a tightly integrated Linux kernel, management software, and the Inetics Driver Component Architecture (IDCA). IDCA supports WAN protocols including PPP, Cisco HDLC, frame relay, ATM, and SoftCell™ ATM and IMA. Inetics also makes it easy to troubleshoot LAN and WAN connections by providing real-time port status and performance monitoring.

The Rebel can be used at the network core, edge, or customer premise. It delivers superior performance and reliability in a low-profile 1U package that works where most Cisco 2800, 3800, and 7200 series routers are used. The Rebel isCase Communication's lowest cost router for high-speed multihomed networks, DS3/E3 premise installations, and many more midrange networking applications.
