DOMAINVIEW MANAGEMENT MODULE
Effective network management is an essential ingredient if any
network is to be truly successful.
The Case Communications 9200 Domain Module enables DomainView systems
to fully manage Case Communications 9200 TDM networks. The module
is available for both DomainView (Sun SPARC based) and for DomainView-PC
(PC Windows NT-based) systems.
Features
- Link management
- Network learn facility
- Message window
- Interactive pictures
- Event paring
- Context sensitive help
Interactive pictures
The module fully supports all the features of DomainView. Included
in the module are fully interactive pictures of the 9200 for both
front and rear views. These provide a true to life representation
of 9200 nodes showing the units status. For example, if an aggregate
is out of service the appropriate port on the rear of the unit will
be shown in red rather than the usual green colour.
High functionality
Full support is provided for all the functionality offered by the
Foundation System:
- Configuration management
- Fault management
- Performance management
Configuration access
The module provides full access to the configuration of 9200 modules
through the interactive picture. This enables 9200 networks to be
configured in a fast and efficient manor with the minimum learning
curve. Full on-line help is available for all configuration dialogue
boxes to ensure that even inexperienced users can make full use
of the system.
Link management
The module provides comprehensive link management facilities. This
enables the status of 9200 links to be shown graphically on the
network map. For example, links will normally be shown as green
but if they go out of service their colour will change to red.
Auto discovery
The module provides an automatic discovery tool. This enables DomainView
systems to automatically learn both the network configuration and
node configurations. This enables a DomainView system to be easily
added an already installed network.
Fault management
Faults that are generated by the 9200 are passed to the 9200 management
application and stored in the DomainView database. Additional access
is available to the fault log database for generating performance
reports and event logs. Real time event logs can be generated by
DomainView on an attached event log printer.
DomainView continuously checks the 9200 installation for status
and immediately reports any loss of connectivity or other System
9000 error conditions.
Event pairing
The DomainView 9200 module supports event pairing. The management
module attempts to match line restoral events with line outage events.
When successful the status of the line will be restored to a normal
display state.
Message window
The message window displays a continually updated summary of all
event information collected by DomainView for all the managed nodes
represented on the network map.
