Statistical Multiplexing

Series DCX

PRODUCT BROCHURE

DCX is the culmination of Case Communications' vast statistical multiplexing experience. The range has been developed incrementally over 20 years, continually adapting to customer needs in order to provide cost-effective local and wide area solutions.

Case Communications' DCX is an integrated solution which forms a single manageable network. Few networking offerings are as flexible, with such a wide range of internetworking options. The DCX series comprises three main units:

  • 870
  • 832
  • 818

These range from the 818 four-port standalone concentrator to the 870 network processor which can support from four to 256 terminals. The 870 has a variety of module options to provide interworking with a choice of networking technologies.

Distributed synchronous hub

Case Communications's Series DCX provides the perfect framework for the handling of business information. The flexibility of DCX provides access over a variety of resources, including Ethernet LANs, X.25 and frame relay

Series DCX is the world leading statistical multiplexer, ideally suited to provide terminal access over a local area network (LAN) or wide area network (WAN) to asynchronous computer systems such as those of DEC, Prime, Hewlett-Packard, and synchronous computer systems such as those of IBM. Case Communications' DCX has built a worldwide reputation for reliability, upgradeability and flexibility.

  • Well-proven technology

Versatile

DCX meets a range of requirements from the simple point-to-point link to the most complex delta network, also meeting many requirements for protocol transport or conversion.

Flexible

All asynchronous devices have network wide access. DCX provides access over an unrivalled variety of resources from Ethernet LANs to ISDN, X.25, leased lines and frame relay services. Because it operates as a network processor, backbone feeder or LAN terminal server, the options available are as wide as any business would need.

Cost-effective

DCX uses statistical multiplexing techniques to minimise the data throughput over expensive wide area lines and services.

Multi-protocol distributed terminal server

With DCX, expensive bridges and routers are no longer required. Asynchronous device users now have direct access on to the LAN, whether LAT or OSI environments are used. The resilience of the DCX network ensures that sessions are maintained even if a single link fails – ensuring uninterrupted performance.

Terminals and PCs can connect to any host on the LAN through the DCX multi-protocol terminal server. Each holds multiple sessions which users can 'hot key' between. Full printer support is available and, with Case Technology Central Europe's Remote PC, PCs retain complete functionality – even those situated in the most remote office will operate as if connected directly to the LAN.

Remote access and bandwidth on demand

By eliminating the need for expensive routers or bridges at remote sites, DCX is the ideal solution for remote LAN access. Also, intelligent interworking with Case Communications' range of ISDN terminal adaptors enables even the most infrequent remote LAN user to dial-up instant access to central services.

Network sharing – X.25 and frame relay ready

Series DCX is ready for X.25 and the frame relay revolution. User traffic can be multiplexed over X.25 and frame relay enabling them to the migrate existing investment towards future technologies.

Network management

A single, user-friendly Man-Machine Interface enables central, remote monitoring and control of an entire network from any terminal or PC at any location. This enables a multitude of management functions to be performed:

  • Device configuration
  • Event reporting
  • Fault diagnostics
  • Traffic monitoring
  • Increased performance of small networks

Even the smallest network can benefit from the increased functionality of DCX — from efficient point-to-point networks with integral modems to delta networks and remote feeders. Through dynamic async/sync line sharing DCX maximises the return on data line investment.
