Business Broadband-X (Local Loop Unbundling)

Case Communications Business Broadband-X is a Broadband service designed to provide high speed symmetric links between buildings located within a geographic area, and providing high speed links back to a central location.

Using a Mixture of Ethernet First Mile (2-base TL) technology and Backhaul services, Business Broadband-X can provide cost savings and higher performance when compared to other services such as traditional G.SHDSL and BT LAN and WAN Extension Services.

How does Case Implement Business Broadband-X?

In order to achieve cost savings and the high performance levels required by business broadband-X customers Case Communications install their equipment inside the local telephone exchanges and use Backhaul Services to take the data from the exchange into the Case Communications network.

Symmetric data rates up to 22.8Mbps can be achieve cost effectively and reliably over existing copper cost effectively.

The Case Communications DSLAM provides local switching so sites can interconnect or use the Backhaul Extension Service (BES) of 10Mbps, 100Mbps of 1Gbps to connect through the Case Communications network to the customers remote site.

24 x 7 x 365 Monitoring

Business Broadband-X is monitored 24 x 7 x 365 from the Case Communications Network Operations Centre ensuring that the highest levels of reliability are maintained.

Typical Local Government Customer using Business Broadband-X

Diagram One to the left shows a typical Local Government Network spread across two telephone exchanges (Exchange Area 1 and Exchange Area 2).

Using standard BT 10Mbps services to each location.

Based on British Telecom May 2008 Pricing for the 10Mbps WES service to each site the costs of a BT solution would be.

Typical Local Government Customer using Business Broadband-X

Diagram Two to the left shows the same typical Local Government Network spread across two telephone exchanges (Exchange Area 1 and Exchange Area 2) only this time using Case Communications Business Broadband-X.

In this solution we have used two 100Mbps backhauls from the telephone exchanges into the Case Network, and from the Case Network into the customers Headquarters, which means there is no contention and plenty of room for expansion. The 100Mbps can be upgraded to Gigabit rates should traffic levels rise to the level where more bandwidth was required.

The cost of the copper circuits from the telephone exchanges to the organisations offices are now relatively short distance and become cost effective, making the operation costs less than half those for the comparable BT Offering. The capital cost in our example are higher than for the BT solution, however with greater numbers connected to the site the capital costs differential decreases due to greater numbers sharing that initial cost, and the operational costs become significantly less.

Doubling bandwidth to 22.8Mbps per site.

Increasing bandwidth to each remote site is relatively cost effective, we merely need to add more circuit between each end point and the exchange. The cost of the same network but with up to 22.8Mbps of bandwidth would become.
