PIGE 8BT 4R – 12 Port PoE b/t Industrial Ethernet Switch Overview

The Case Communications  PIGE-8BT-4R is a 12 Port PoE b/t Industrial Ethernet Switch, with 4 x Gigabit SFP Ports and 8 x 10/100/1000Mbps PoE / PoE+++  Ports which support IEEE 802.3af/at/bt providing up to 90 watts per port.

As a PoE device the PIGE-8BT-4R can automatically detect and identify any equipment that meets the PoE standards and supply power to that device

The PIGE-8BT-4R supports a variety of redundancy protocols such as STP / RSTP / MSTP as well as G.8032 (ERPS V2) allowing communications to be recovered quickly in the even of a network failure ensuring uninterrupted communications for mission critical applications.

The PIGE-8BT-4R is managed via a Web Interface CLI or SNMP Management System such as CaseView.

Ring Technology

The PIGE-8BT-4R uses standard Spanning Tree Protocol (STP), Rapid Spanning Tree Protocol (RSTP)  and Multiple Spanning Tree Protocol (MSTP) for network resilience in addition it can also use G.8032 V2 Enhanced Ring Protection Protocol to provide self healing in under 50ms and support up to 255 rings.

The PIGE 8BT 4R 12 Port PoE b/t Industrial Ethernet Switch, uses Ethernet Ring Protection Switching, or ERPS V2.. This is a protocol devised by ITU-T under G.8032 Recommendation to provide sub-50ms protection and recovery switching for Ethernet traffic in a ring topology

Previous ring protocols could very occasionally be subject to Ethernet crashes when the switch acting as the ring master switch would self heal when there was no break in the ring causing an Ethernet loop and a crash of the ring.

G.8032 ensures there are no loops formed at the Ethernet layer. G.8032v1 supports  single ring topology while G.8032v2 supports multiple rings/ladder topology.
