Introduction to Case Communications 6944 4G Rugged Wi-Fi router
The Case Communications 6944 is a Dual SIM 4G LTE Industrial / Rugged M2M Router, that supports 300Mbps Mesh Wi-Fi , digital Input / output ports and support for both MODBUS master and MODBUS Slave. The 6944 rugged W Fi router is a high performance industrial cellular router designed to operate in harsh conditions from -40C to +75C, making the 6944 operate reliably in the most difficult of locations.
6944 4G Rugged Industrial Router Hardware Features
Ethernet Ports
The 6944 4G Rugged Industrial Router is supplied with 4 x 10/100Mbps Ethernet ports and can either use all 4 Ethernet ports as LAN Ports or it can use 3 Ethernet ports as LAN Ports and 1 Ethernet Port as an ‘Ethernet WAN’ Port, as a result it allows additional routes out of the 6944. Typically this can be used as a back up route or it can be a primary route and use the 4G ports as cellular back up ports.
300Mbps MIMO Wi-Fi
The Case 6944 Industrial Cellular VPN Router comes with with dual MIMO antenna providing 300Mbps over the Wi-Fi using well known standards IEEE 802.11b/g/n Wi-Fi. This allows the 6944 to act as an Access Point or to connect to other 6944’s via the Wi-Fi link. When meshed to other 6944 routers the 6944 can use the Wi-Fi as another alternate route. This allows true meshed network and true non-stop networking.
2 Digital Input and 2 Digital Output Port
DI ELECTRICAL CHARACTERISTICS
1. Galvanic isolation;
2. Over-Voltage Protection: 36 VDC
3. Over-Current Protection:100mA per channel @ 25°C
Dry Contact Typical Application
Switch ON(Short to V-): DI Logic LOW
Switch OFF(Open): DI Logic HIGH
The 6944 has dual digital Output ports
DO ELECTRICAL CHARACTERISTICS
1. Galvanic isolation;
2. Over-Voltage Protection: 36 VDC
3. Over-Current Protection:50mA per channel @ 25°C
Wet Contact Typical Application
DO Logic LOW: Switch ON(Led ON)
DO Logic HIGH: Switch OFF(Led OFF)
VRRP (Virtual Router Redundancy Protocol)
For the ultimate in resilience the 6944 is supports V.R.R.P (Virtual Router Redundancy Protocol) This is a computer networking protocol that provides automatic assignment of available Internet Protocol (IP) routers for participating hosts. The V.R.R.P router that has the highest number will become the virtual master router. This means other routers can automatically take over in the event or a router failure. The 6944 can use VRRP with other 6944 routers as well as with Cisco routers
SMS Control
The 6944 supports an SMS feature which allows network managers to send an SMS to monitor or control the 6944 router or get the operational status of the router.
6944 with GPS
The 6944 has the option of a GPS module.
Serial Ports
To provide support for SCADA / MODBUS systems the 6944 is equipped with both an RS232 and RS485 ports allowing connection to industrial control systems.
802.1X RADIUS Server Support
The 6944 can be configured to allow external authentication of management access using an external RADIUS server. RADIUS (Remote Authentication Dial-In User Service )is a networking protocol that provides centralized authentication, authorization, and accounting (AAA) management for users who connect and use a network service. RADIUS is now a part of the IEEE 802 and IETF standards. The 6944 acts as a facilitator for RADIUS authentication. Equipment connected to the Ethernet ports of the 6944 must be authenticated by the external RADIUS server before access to the 6944 network and WAN. The equipment that is to be connected to the 6944 must be capable of being configured to request 802.1X/RADIUS authentication, without this the equipment will never be allowed access to the 6944’s network or WAN.
6944 as a MODBUS SLAVE
The 6944 can run as a MODBUS Slave The Modbus Master connects to the 6944 router (Modbus Slave) via a TCP connection.
The Modbus Master reads the status of the Digital IO and controls the DO.
6944 as a MODBUS MASTER
The 6944 Router can also runs as Modbus Master and can connect to a MODBUS Slave via an Ethernet, RS232 or RS485 interface.
The 6944 router polls the MODBUS data from the MODBUS slave and sends it to the remote management centre via TCP, FTP or MQTT protocol.
The 6944 acting as a Modbus Master and writes to the register values or coil to Modbus Slave.
